With boundless imagination and a deep understanding of the applied arts, my work demonstrates design excellence, including problem solving, design strategy, quality of creative craft, innovation within creative teams, and impact of final design solutions. I have ensured and maintained cross-discipline expertise by mentoring creative generalists and specialists alike. I champion the value of design while supporting and leading creative management in staff development, performance appraisal, and general staffing challenges.
Born and raised in Bakersfield, California, I studied Applied Art & Design at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, California, and Advertising Design at Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York for undergraduate and postgraduate work respectively.
After graduation, I worked in Palo Alto at a boutique design studio with clients including Intel. Returning home, I spent seven years with The Bakersfield Californian, a mid-size daily newspaper, before launching my own independent design studio.
Alongside my role as Principal and Creative Director, I taught Applied Art & Design at both Bakersfield College and Cal State University, Bakersfield.
When my wife’s career in finance brought us to the Midwest, I carried that experience forward to Marlin, a food-centric ad agency where I bring decades of creative leadership to international clients including Nestlé, PepsiCo, Frito-Lay, and Simplot.
My work has been recognized by Editor & Publisher Magazine, regional Ad Clubs, the Benny Awards, and numerous other accolades. It has also been published in the LogoLounge series as well as Communication Arts, Dieline, and Bon Appétit.
My wife Betsy and I now split our time between California and New Hampshire, while our three children—Andy, Maddie, and Ben—are cattered all about.
